What it takes to make money on the internet?

Today I came across an article at Gizmodo about a 16 year old kid who earned his first million. You can read the story from the link above since I will not repeat it here. That made me think a bit about what it takes to make money like this nowadays.

We all know the .com companies explosion some years ago. Every kid/adult/old individual could make money as long as spend some time in web development or any e-business in general. That was the time we first saw e-business classes in bachelor and master education levels. That was a golden era to earn money in the internet.

Things are different now. In my opinion only exceptional people can earn money selling services in the internet. That means either ideas are starting drying out or simply people turn their attention to .... advertising!

Ads seems like a win-win-win situation for both web sites owners, intermediates (as today's story boy, current project) and of course companies. You don't have to be the most famous web site in order to get some revenue. But as all things in life, the intermediate makes most. This kid realized that and now run a quite successful company. The kid did not need to have a master or PhD in advertising, psychology (I'll be back education<->money interaction in another article). He didn't even have to have someone explained that to him. He just knew it from experience.

So, is this kid exceptional? Well, yes he is. He may have copied his method to generate money from someone else but who cares? Why haven't you, me anyone else done that? Because we are not exceptional.

P.S. By the way, hi! This is my first post!
